Biografi merupakan sebuah tulisan dimana berisi penjelasan tentang kisah dan berbagai keterangan dari seseorang. Secara ringkasnya dapat disebut pula dengan riwayat hidup orang lain yang biasanya mempunyai dampak secara luas.

Pengertian menurut etimologinya berasal dari bahasa Yunani yaitu kata "bios" yang berarti hidup dan "graphien" artinya tulisan. Maka biografi merupakan tulisan berisi tentang kehidupan seseorang. Bentuknya pun bisa pendek maupun panjang serta dituliskan oleh orang lain.

Isi dari biografi ialah cerita perjalanan hidup seseorang hampir secara detail mulai dari kelahiran, hal-hal penting dalam hidupnya yang membuatnya terkenal baik melalui karya, prestasi, atau pemikirannya hingga kematiannya.
